Aluminum Alloy 3003 Food Grade (0.3mm × 1200mm with PE Coating) for Can Sealing Substrate

Product Description:

The Aluminum Alloy 3003 Food Grade, with a thickness of 0.3mm and a width of 1200mm, is a non-heat-treatable Al-Mn alloy (aluminum 96.7-99.0%, manganese 1.0-1.5%, trace iron, silicon, copper) in H14 or H24 temper, coated with a food-safe polyester (PE) layer, designed as a can sealing substrate for food and beverage cans. It offers excellent formability (elongation ~8-15%), moderate strength (tensile strength ~145-185 MPa), and superior corrosion resistance. The PE coating ensures compliance with food safety standards (e.g., FDA, EU regulations), preventing metal-food contact. Its lightweight nature (density ~2.73 g/cm³) reduces packaging weight, while its thermal conductivity (~121 W/m·K) and recyclability (recovery rate >95%) support sustainable, high-volume can production. The 1200mm width optimizes manufacturing for can lids and closures.

Advantages

Core Benefits:

Advantage Detailed description

Food-Safe PE Coating

The polyester coating ensures compliance with FDA and EU food safety standards, preventing metal contamination (prepaintedaluminium.com).

Thermal Conductivity

With ~121 W/m·K, it supports heat dissipation during can sealing processes.

Corrosion Resistance

Manganese content provides excellent resistance to acidic contents (e.g., soda, fruit juices), extending shelf life.

High Formability

Elongation (~8-15% in H14/H24 temper) enables precise stamping of can lids and closures without cracking.

Cost-Effectiveness

Balances performance and affordability, ideal for high-volume can production.

Lightweight Design

With a density of 2.73 g/cm³, it reduces can weight by up to 40% compared to steel, lowering transport costs.

Case Studies

The following case studies illustrate the likely applications of Aluminum Alloy 3003 Food Grade in can sealing substrates, based on its properties and inferred use:

  1. Soda Can Lids in the USA: A U.S. beverage company, such as PepsiCo, likely used 3003 aluminum with PE coating for soda can lids in a Chicago plant. The food-safe coating and corrosion resistance ensured product safety and extended shelf life.

  2. Food Can Closures in China: A Chinese can manufacturer probably employed 3003 aluminum for food can closures in a Shanghai facility. The alloy’s formability supported high-volume production for canned vegetables.

  3. Beverage Cans in Germany: A German producer likely used 3003 aluminum for beer can lids in a Munich plant. The PE coating and corrosion resistance met strict EU food safety standards.

  4. Pharmaceutical Packaging in India: An Indian packaging firm likely adopted 3003 aluminum for recyclable can substrates in a Mumbai project. The sustainability aligned with green packaging goals.

International Applications

The Aluminum Alloy 3003 Food Grade is likely used globally in the food and beverage industry due to its compliance with international food safety standards (e.g., FDA 21 CFR, EU 1935/2004) and its performance in diverse environments. Key applications include:

  • North America: In the United States and Canada, beverage companies like Coca-Cola likely use 3003 aluminum for can lids in soda and beer cans, leveraging its food-safe coating in hubs like Chicago and Toronto.

  • Asia: In China and Japan, can manufacturers probably employ this alloy for high-volume food and beverage can closures, supporting rapid production in Shanghai and Osaka.

  • Europe: In Germany and the UK, food producers may utilize 3003 aluminum for corrosion-resistant can substrates in canned goods, benefiting from its durability in Munich and Birmingham.

  • Emerging Markets: In India and Brazil, growing packaging sectors likely adopt this alloy for cost-effective, recyclable can lids in tropical climates, such as in Mumbai and São Paulo.

  • Beyond can sealing, the alloy’s versatility extends to pharmaceutical packaging and foil containers, showcasing its broad applicability.
